Buffy the Vampire Slayer remains one of the most-loved shows in TV history, in part because of its loveable ensemble of characters.

But one character proved to be pretty divisive.
No, we're not talking about Riley. We're talking about Buffy's sister Dawn, played by Michelle Trachtenberg.
Dawn appeared out of nowhere in season five, the twist being that she is actually a mystical key used to unlock dimensions – and was inserted into Buffy's life so that she would be protected by the vampire slayer.
Since Gossip Girl, Trachtenberg has popped up on NCIS: Los Angeles and Sleepy Hollow. She was also in Sister Cities in 2016, alongside Amy Smart, Troian Bellisario, and Stana Katic.
Although she had plenty of fans, she had a number of detractors, with many viewers – and even Entertainment Weekly – describing her as annoying.
'Most of the haters don't have the guts to say things in person,' she told Entertainment Weekly during the 20th anniversary reunion for the show.
'I still get comments like, 'Oh my god! I think Dawn is so annoying!' I get it. It's fine.
'It used to be a 60-40 'I hate Dawn'. Then it became 50-50. Now, I think it's 60-40 being supportive of Dawn. Maybe even 70-30.'
Trachtenberg defended the character, saying that Dawn reflects a lot of people's teenage years.
'I rarely get the 'Oh, she ruined the show',' she said. 'I do get a lot of 'Oh, she was so whiny!'.
'Hi, were you a teenager? Oh, you were docile, sitting in the corner, doe-eyed, and happy to be there? No. There's a reason why teenagers have a stigma and that is what Joss wrote.'
Meanwhile, Sarah Michelle Gellar – who played Buffy – revealed her least favourite season of them all. (We disagree with her, by the way.)
